Why I do this work
I was a pre-teen when the news broke that journalist Bill Stewart had been killed on assignment — for telling the truth, for being a voice for the voiceless. As young as I was, something shifted in me. I understood that the truth was worth defending.
That moment shaped my life's work. I became a journalist because I needed to understand why things happen — you can't change what you don't understand. But after years in the newsroom, I realized reporting the problem wasn't enough for me. I wanted to be part of the solution.
So I went to work in local government, where I learned to bring about real change for real people. And I learned the lesson that still guides every project I take on: listen first, then serve. If someone needs food, you don't hand them a brochure. You give them food. It's really that simple.
Real change is grounded in truth and driven by love. I'm not the fun aunt — I'm the one you call when there's a problem to solve. If you're ready to move from ideas to impact, let's get to work.
In Tracey's own words.

A native of Buffalo and a Rochesterian for nearly 30 years, Tracey D. Miller is the Principal and Managing Director of Tracey D. Miller Associates LLC — a consulting, project development, and management firm. Her calling is simple: connect people to the opportunities that improve their quality of life.
Tracey brings more than 14 years of government service to her clients. She made history as the first African American woman to serve as Assistant to the Mayor for Rochester's first African American woman Mayor, the Honorable Lovely A. Warren — establishing and managing the Mayor's Office of Constituent Services for a city of more than 200,000 residents. From concept to completion, she developed and managed over 50 community-good projects, and during the COVID-19 pandemic, she organized PPE distribution to essential workers and houses of worship and helped connect residents to housing and unemployment assistance.
Her effectiveness comes from relationships. Over many years of direct, personal engagement, Tracey built genuine partnerships across clergy and faith-based organizations, community groups, Black fraternities and sororities, colleges and universities, and corporate partners — the kind of trust that turns a good idea into a finished project.
That work has not gone unrecognized. Tracey was presented with the Key to the City of Rochester, the highest honor a Mayor can bestow, for her untiring efforts to improve the lives of the Rochester community.
Before consulting and public service, Tracey built a career in media. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Communications from Buffalo State University and worked on air across Western New York — as an announcer at WBLK FM, a weekend news anchor and reporter at WGR AM, a guest coordinator for faith-based programming at WNYB, and for years as a familiar voice on WDKX FM, where she kept the community informed on city programs. She has also appeared on NBC affiliate WHEC News 10. That training is the foundation of how she works today: she listens — to what's said, and to what isn't — before she ever offers a solution.
If your vision serves the community, I'd be honored to help you carry it to completion.
